Following in the triumphant footsteps of his restaurant Town, Geoffrey Zakarian opens Country, realizing a vision for a restaurant that speaks of his passion for food and wine as well as for a lifestyle of comfort, grace and elegance. Country evokes the sophistication of turn-of-the century New York imbued with a chic and contemporary approach. Located in a deftly restored two-story space, with original mosaic floors from the early 1900's and a rediscovered Tiffany stained-glass dome, Country brings to life the successful union of old New York grandeur and the style and practicality of modern cuisine.

The revolving glass door on the corner of the building delivers diners into a beautiful café with wood paneled walls, cozy banquets and marble table tops. The zinc bar welcomes guests in and gives them pause as to whether or not they might relinquish their table in favor of eating at the bar. The café serves breakfast lunch and dinner with an accessible menu of fully developed classics.

A large imposing staircase beckons the sightline upwards allowing a voyeur to catch a glimpse of the impressive dome. Once on the second floor, the open kitchen serves as a backdrop to the rich dining room and a glass catwalk leads to the Champagne Bar seemingly tucked away within the restaurant, yet deceivingly perches over Madison Avenue and 29th Street. "I've created a restaurant where guests will feel like they are going to a friend's house for a dinner party," says Chef/Owner Geoffrey Zakarian, describing the inspiration behind Country. "For me, there is nothing more magnificent than sharing a meal in someone's home."
